  • Jason S. Lipetz, MD

    Founder, Clinical Associate Professor

    Prior to founding Long Island Spine Rehabilitation Medicine, Dr. Lipetz served as the Director of the Center for Spine Rehabilitation for the North Shore Long Island Jewish healthcare system from 1999-2006. Dr. Lipetz received his specialized and interventional spine medicine training during a fellowship year at the internationally recognized Penn Spine Center of the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. After receiving his medical degree with Alpha Omega Alpha honors from Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons, Dr. Lipetz completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the prestigious Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He was elected and served as Academic Chief Resident during his senior year of residency. Dr. Lipetz received his bachelors degree in biology with summa cum laude honors through the Presidential Honors Program of the State University of New York at Buffalo. Dr. Lipetz has authored over thirty original articles and abstracts in peer reviewed journals and several textbook chapters, including chapters within the leading texts in both the Interventional Spine Care and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation literature. He has served as a representative to national medical organizations since his residency years, including Chair of the Education Committee of the Physiatric Association of Spine, Sports, and Occupational Rehabilitation (PASSOR). Dr. Lipetz has most recently served as a member of the research committee of the International Spine Intervention Society. Dr. Lipetz is a reviewer for three leading peer reviewed journals within his specialty. He served as the Residency Training Program Director for the Division of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Long Island Jewish Medical Center from 2003 to 2005, and he is an Associate Professor of Rehabilitation Medicine at Hofstra University School of Medicine. Dr. Lipetz is uniquely triple board certified in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Pain Management, and Electrodiagnostic Medicine. He has lectured nationally and has been featured in both regional and national TV and newspaper segments. He is taking appointments at our East Meadow & Great Neck locations.

  • Jeffry R. Beer, MD

    Clinical Assistant Professor

    Prior to joining Long Island Spine Rehabilitation Medicine, Dr. Beer was an attending physician at the renowned Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in West Orange, NJ, where he directed Spine Rehabilitation and Interventional Services. Following residency, Dr. Beer completed the highly regarded Interventional Spine and Sports Medicine Fellowship program at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City. During his fellowship, in addition to caring for patients at an internationally recognized center of excellence in the areas of surgical and non-surgical spine care, Dr. Beer participated in the physiatric care of the New York Knicks professional basketball team. After a medical internship at the Staten Island University Hospital, Dr. Beer completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park, New York. During his senior year of residency, Dr. Beer was elected to serve as Chief Resident and was among a select group of nationally recognized scholarship recipients honored by the American Pain Society at its national conference in Chicago. As a resident, Dr. Beer was also elected President of the National Resident Council of the Association of Academic Physiatrists. Dr. Beer received his medical degree from SUNY Downstate Health Science Center in Brooklyn. He received his undergraduate degree from Queens College, where he graduated cum laude with a major in Economics. He also completed a four year curriculum during his undergraduate years and continues to devote time to the study of Talmudic Law. While at Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation, Dr. Beer was deeply involved in the residency training program, acting as a mentor to the physiatry residents, lecturer, and member of Residency Education Committees. With Dr. Beer’s return to the Long Island medical community, he remains actively involved in resident education at North Shore-Long Island Jewish Medical Center. Well published and a sought after lecturer in the areas of Interventional Spine and Musculoskeletal Medicine, Dr. Beer has been honored as one of the featured speakers at the nationally recognized Kessler Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Board Review Course since 2005. Dr. Beer is board certified in both Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Pain Management and is board eligible in Electrodiagnostic and Neuromuscular Medicine. He maintains an active membership in numerous professional organizations, including the International Spinal Intervention Society and American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.   • Miranda B. Smith, MD

    Clinical Assistant Professor

    After her residency training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the prestigious Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation, Dr. Smith completed her Interventional Spine and Musculoskeletal Medicine fellowship training at Rutgers University New Jersey Medical School. In addition to Dr. Smith’s expertise in non-surgical spine care and musculoskeletal medicine, she has advanced training and experience in the latest diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound as well as ultrasound guided injection techniques. She is also specialty board certified in diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound. Dr. Smith has maintained a strong interest in teaching and in clinical research. She has presented original research at multiple national conferences and served as an instructor in physical examination, musculoskeletal ultrasound, and electrodiagnostic (EMG) courses. Dr. Smith received her medical degree from New York Medical College and graduated magna cum laude from Macalester College with a degree in biology. Dr. Smith is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. She is taking appointments at our East Meadow, Great Neck & Huntington locations.

  • Thomas P. Lione, DO

    Clinical Assistant Professor

    Dr. Lione returned to Long Island after completing his fellowship training in Interventional Pain Medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University Health System in Richmond, Virginia. Prior to fellowship, Dr. Lione obtained his residency training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Northwell Health, where he was elected Chief Resident and served as an Executive Board Member of the Northwell Health Residents and Fellows Forum and House Staff Association. During his internship at Northwell Health-Plainview Hospital, he was awarded the Gary K. Rachlin Memorial Award for his commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care. In addition to his expertise in musculoskeletal medicine and interventional spine care, Dr. Lione received extensive training for the comprehensive treatment of a wide variety of painful disorders, including cancer-related pain and headache management, and advanced procedural training in techniques in neuromodulation and cutting-edge implant therapies. Dr. Lione maintains a strong interest in medical education and enjoys working with and teaching medical students and resident physicians. In addition, he has published in numerous textbooks and journals on a variety of pain and musculoskeletal topics and has presented at multiple national and regional conferences. Dr. Lione received his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania and his medical degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Lione is double board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Pain Medicine.

  • Perry Zellinger, MD

    Medical Doctor

    Dr. Zelinger was born and raised on the south shore of Long Island. After graduating magna cum laude from SUNY Binghamton, he completed medical school at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell where he received the Departmental Graduation Award in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. He went on to complete his medical internship at NYU Winthrop Hospital in Mineola. During his residency in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at the NYU Rusk Institute, Dr. Zelinger received world-class training in a broad range of topics related to physiatry. He also engaged in multiple extracurricular pursuits and leadership roles and was elected to serve as Chief Resident in his final year. Dr. Zelinger returns to his native Long Island after completing a NASS-recognized fellowship in Interventional Spine and Musculoskeletal Medicine at OSS Health in York, PA. He has extensive training in the non-surgical management of spine and joint disorders, musculoskeletal ultrasound, fluoroscopic and ultrasound-guided injections, minimally invasive pain procedures, and electrodiagnostics. He uses his expertise to accurately diagnose and create a multimodal treatment plan in order to help patients achieve their highest level of function and quality of life. Outside of work, Dr. Zelinger enjoys golf, soccer, game nights, and spending time with his family.

  • Areeb Chator, MD

    Medical Doctor

    Dr. Chator graduated with a Bachelor of Science, and with honors, in molecular and cellular biology from Johns Hopkins University. After this, he worked full time as a research assistant at the University of Michigan and then earned his M.D. degree at the Wayne State University School of Medicine. He went on to complete his internship year at Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, and his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Michigan where he received the prestigious Gary Davidoff Research Award. Following this, he completed a Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship at Montefiore Health System – Burke Rehabilitation Hospital where he worked extensively with high school and collegiate teams and athletes, New York City Football Club members, and adaptive athletes. He additionally provided medical coverage for various large-scale athletic events including the NYC Marathon and Triathlon. During fellowship Dr. Chator also developed a state-of-the-art didactics program on musculoskeletal ultrasound education for PM&R Residents at Burke Hospital. He has extensive training in musculoskeletal ultrasound, ultrasound-guided injections, non-surgical management of sports, spine and musculoskeletal injuries, orthobiologics and regenerative medicine, sport-related concussion, degenerative joint disorders, and nerve entrapments. He has presented clinical cases at the annual meetings of the American Medical Academy for Sports Medicine, the Association of Academic Physiatrists and even a Research Spotlight presentation on his sport-related concussion research at the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Annual Assembly. He additionally was a fellow author on three PM&R Knowledge NOW articles about foot deformities, dextrose prolotherapy and hydrodissection. He is board-certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation and board-eligible in sports medicine. In his spare time, Dr. Chator enjoys rock climbing, kayaking, traveling, board games, and spending time with loved ones.
